Poor Weather Procedure
The school will remain open unless otherwise stated on the home page of this website. We will only close if the the weather situation is severe and the site is unsafe for students.
If a decision is made to close the school the notice will be posted on the home page of this website by no later than 7:15am. All parents and carers will be sent a text message and an email, so it is essential that any change of mobile or email details are given to the school office. We will no longer be putting a message out on local radio.
The decision to close the school will also take into account whether we have enough staff in school to supervise the students. Many of our teaching staff travel some considerable distance and journeys can be severely affected by the weather conditions across the country and south east region. We will always endeavour to keep the school open but in the event that we have insufficient staff to cover we may only open to certain year groups.
In the event of a decision being taken to close the school early due to deteriorating weather conditions we will contact parents via text and email and will allow students to use their mobile phones to make contact with home. Students will only be permitted to leave school early once parental permission has been sought.
The school website will be updated throughout a period of closure and will confirm when the school will reopen. The rule of thumb will always be to check this website if in any doubt.
Whilst public examinations are taking place, even if the decision is taken to close the school to other students, it will remain open to exam candidates as the exams must run on the set date. Students taking public exams must make every possible effort to attend to sit the exams as there will not be an opportunity to reschedule.
