Match Reports 2016 - 2017

Monday 26th September 2016 - Under 13s Football 1st Round - Oasis Academy

The Under 13s (Years 7 and 8) football team played Oasis Academy, Isle of Sheppey on Monday 26th September in the first round of the cup. The first half started with Walderslade demonstrating their attacking skills, keeping the ball in the Oasis half the majority of the time. Stephanie Greenstreet and Kaitlyn Markwell had a couple of clear chances shooting straight into the keeper’s arms. The second half started with the same enthusiasm as the first half with Walderslade having the most chances on target. Unfortunately, the defence got caught on the counter attack just before the final whistle finished the game. The final score was 1-0 to Oasis Academy.

Wednesday 16th November 2016 - Year 7 Netball - Brompton Academy

The Year 7 netball team lost against Brompton Academy 2-1 on Wednesday 16th November. A close game in the near fading November light, by the end the girls could hardly see the ball! Both teams were eager to win and there was plenty of action mid court with interceptions from both teams.  However after a hard fought battle it was Brompton that won in a rather low scoring game.  Plenty of practice and passing to work on!

Thursday 6th October 2016 - Under 16s Football 1st Round - Spires Academy

The Under 16s (Years 10 and 11) football team played Spires Academy, Canterbury on Thursday 6th October. After a long journey to Canterbury the team did a quick warm up and were raring to play the game. This enthusiasm was taken straight onto the pitch and within the first 5 minutes of the game Walderslade were 2-0 up through goals from Lucy Haden and Erin Pomphrey. The first half followed suit finishing 7-0 at the end of the half with goals from Jasmine Reilly (2), Lucy and Gracie Hammell (2). The second half started in the same fashion, Lucy finishing off her hat trick to make it 8-0. Spires managed to get 2 goals back in the second half to make the final score line 8-2. Massive congratulations to the girls who are now in the second round of the cup.

Thursday 17th November 2016 - Medway District Cross Country - Rochester Math

This race was held at Rochester Math on Thursday 17th November and Walderslade Girls’ School entered three teams. The Year 7 team was represented by Ellie Wood, Kaitlin Reynolds, Jessica Simmons and Keira Lea Gray.  It was their first race and they came fourth out of nine teams which is an excellent achievement.

The Year 8 and 9 team were Emily Hinkley, Abigail Barker, Kerry Dewberry and Christiana Alaoye.  These girls each ran a strong race again coming fourth.

Finally, it was the turn of the Year 10 and 11 team.  They were Rachel Gilham, Jasmine Reilly, Ellieann Venner and Erin Pomphrey.  They ran just over two miles and by then it was raining; the team should be commended on coming eighth.

Overall Walderslade was placed sixth out of thirteen girls’ schools’ teams which is a fine performance – well done to all who took part.

As a result of this two girls have been selected to run for Medway in the Kent Championships in January – special congratulations to Ellie Wood in Year 7 and Kerry Dewberry in Year 9.
