CURRICULUM

GCSE Foundation Years: Years 7 and 8
Students follow a broad and balanced curriculum with an emphasis on experiencing a range of Arts subjects.
Core subjects: English, mathematics, science, ICT and PE.
Additional subjects: French, history, geography, art, music, drama, dance, textiles, sculpture, food studies and philosophy and ethics.
Key Stage 4: Years 9, 10 and 11
Students make their Key Stage 4 option subject choices at the end of Year 8, allowing Key Stage 4 subjects to be studied over three years during Years 9 to 11. Certification is at the end of Year 11.
The curriculum emphasises the availability of Arts qualifications and suitable students may study several of these.
Core subjects: English, mathematics, science, philosophy and ethics, ICT and PE.
Option subjects: students choose three subjects from a range of over twenty GCSE and BTEC vocational qualifications.
Sixth Form: Years 12 and 13.
Walderslade Girls’ School and the neighbouring Greenacre Academy operate a collaborative Sixth Form, known as ‘PGW’ – Partnership of Greenacre and Walderslade Girls.
Through this provision we are able to offer a very wide range of Academic and Vocational qualifications mostly at Level 3 but with a Level 2 offer also available. Students generally start on four Level 3 qualifications, but some will drop to three at the start of Year 13.
